Star Wars Artwork

Disney fan art - so it's okay as long as you don't sell it?
Stuff like this
http://meisanmui.com/gallery/albums/userpics/aladdin23.jpg
http://media.photobucket.com/image/ariel%20painting/sassysexybitchy/50.jpg
So it is legal to put it up on your website as your artwork (inspired by Disney) but you are not allowed to sell it? Please help me out I am really confused by this copyright thing.
Are you allowed to SELL fan art of any kind? Art that is heavily inspired by a movie/video game? (Star Wars, Tomb Raider, etc.) or would you be sued by the creators?
samantha, because I've been told you get sued by Disney whether you profit from it or not, so *nothing* is allowed... which confuses me
If you want to make devitations on deviantART with as tag "fan art", you should have no problem. Fan art IS artwork produced by a fan of a certain character.
Unless you're a) widely gonna spread it and b) you're gonna sell it, there is hardly a chance they will sue you. Those are the main 2 criteria you have to take onto account; as long as you don't advertise one of those figures as your own, or want to sell them, or want to show them to a big audience without the form of "fan art", you shouldn't worry.
If you REALLY want to be sure, then add under the picture that the characters belong to Disney, that you do not own them, etc.

Artist Aleksandra Mir's Art Work and Paintings at the Saatchi-gallery
Aleksandra Mir could be accused of not practicing safe art at all. While much of the New York art community is still hermetically limited to the boundaries of white gallery wallsBeauty Free, Cold War Hot Stuff and Real Real Estate Flowers belong to a series of twenty huge drawings created by Aleksandra Mir and a team of sixteen assistants – mainly students and art school graduates - as part of a non-stop "Sharpie marathon" held in a temporary East Village studio, New York, during the month of May 2005. Each work consists of eight sheets of paper, pieced together in a landscape format, the common feature of which is an outlined map of the United States.
Retro text and motifs evoking idealist 1960s Americana such as the draft, the baby boom, Civil War, road trips, the space race, the Bicentennial, love and God were sketched by Mir overnight and filled in by her helpers working in shifts each day and evening using black Sharpie felt tips pens. The process of collaboration, and the use of atypical materials – in this case a humble household marker pen – are similarly integral to the artist's working practice.
Beauty Free is a commentary on the American Civil War, a bloody conflict dominated by the issue of slavery which began in 1860 when Confederate states in the south declared their independence and claimed the right of secession from the union. The southern states are here labelled "free", the letters spelled out in stars from the country's flag, while the northern states are threaded together by one long, continuous, looping stripe and the word "beauty". Cold War Hot Stuff employs the same device – stars in the form of snowflakes above and stripes in the form of sunbeams below – to create a contrast of warm and cold, light and dark, and, in a more overtly political sense, good and evil. Real Real Estate Flowers, probably the most psychedelic of the three, maps the officially designated flowers of each state.

The 2nd bottom image under Jango & Boba is etched into my memory. It was featured on the back of a Star Wars Insider magazine years and years ago and I looked at it for hours. Thanks for giving me some crazy memories, I had no idea who the artist was that painted that image. Sanda has clearly done some very memorable Star Wars Artwork.

Wow- that's amazing. Have you seen the Steampunk Star Wars Artwork that was floating around a while back? I'll see if I can find the URL.

I don’t care much for all of the Star Wars Artwork, but I also make sculpture from scrap metal, and this was done very well. You will often see similar sculptures outside of transmission shops or welding supply stores, but I have never seen one done with so much attention to detail. Bravo!
Awesome Hungarian Star Wars Artwork!

That's really too bad, especially since by not watching the bonus disc that came with the latest DVD boxset just so happened to include my badass junior high self and my buddy Luis (sporting our Star Wars shirts at the Chinese Theater when r2d2, c3p0, and Darth got their prints in the concrete there) got cameo'd in the “Making of Star Wars” show that aired on ABC waaaay back in the summer of its release.
