What are some well know (pop-culturally) epics that are easy to parody?

I'm writing the feature on a cynical senior's high school career/ memories/ snide remarks in my school paper. I think it would be neat if it was basically a spoof instead of a serious article. I was thinking of starting it like "Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away..." and kinda carrying it through, but Star Wars has already been done a lot, and I don't really know enough about it to keep it up through the piece. Any suggestions?

Looking on Wookiepedia and other sites like google, I was surprised too find I couldn't find anything other than the basic seal of several groups in Star Wars. Is there some place I'm forgetting too look at?

Ok, what it means is you need 4 GB of space to install it and you only have 3.48GB. i.e, you don't have enough space. Just get a bigger Hard Drive

Metamorphosis of Ethnic Roman Costumes

History permeates every corner of the ancient city of Rome known as the eternal city. Their culture is the basis for todays society, culture and fashion. Much of the Roman clothing culture is based on the Greek fashion. They were also influenced by the Egyptians during the middle of 200 BC, but later on they developed their own clothing style, known as the Roman Clothing. To Romans, clothing was not just a means of covering their body, but it was highly symbolic exhibiting an indication of their class, social status, age gender, and occupation. They wanted to depict everyone around them; and to the rest of the world, what their place was in the society. It varied in color, style, and adornments indicating the persons position in the Empire. In the later years, these garments became appealing garments for the modern fashion aficionados. As time slipped, there was progress in the weaving methods, but the basic pattern of garments remained the same.

Traditional Roman Closet: Tunics and Togas:

Ancient Romans wore two types of basic garments, tunics and togas. Tunics were informal and indoor costumes, while togas were official and outdoor costumes. Both were made of spun wool. Tunic was comfortable for working and moving around indoors. Mostly white in color, the tunic was often undyed, and unadorned. Still, the upper class people wore tunics with some decorations so as to distinguish themselves from the slaves. Togas were adopted from the Greek fashion. It was an important garment and an indication of roman citizenship. No foreigner was allowed to wear a toga though he lived in Italy or Rome. Toga was the official garment of both men and woman of Rome. Later the trend changed, and togas were worn only by male Roman citizens.

Mens Clothing:

Men wore a tunic both at home and when they went out. Similar in appearance to a long tee-shirt, the type of tunic differed from one class to another. The tunic worn by common people, herdsmen and slaves was made of coarse cloth and was usually dark in color. Patricians wore white color tunic made of wool or linen. Magistrates wore the tunic called augusticlavia, senators wore it with broad strips called tunica laticlavia, and shorter tunics were worn by the military people. During special occasions, they covered the tunic with a white wool coat called toga. It was square or rectangular in shape and was draped around the body. The toga was an indication of the social status of the person. Togas of consuls and senators were edged with purple. Emperors togas were completely purple. Black ones were worn during mourning. Romans did not wear trousers, but later on they used one while they were hunting or riding called Gallic bracae. It was also worn by the soldiers for warmth.

Roman Woman:

Womens clothing was very simple and lacked luxury and exquisite elegance. They did not have distinctions in clothing like men that would indicate their social status. Their only distinction was the stolas which was worn only by married women.To compensate with this, they relayed more on hair styles and jewellery. Roman women also wore a tunic which was usually of knee length. Over this, they draped a stola which was a long dress from neck to ankle, with a belt around the waist. The stola was usually white, grey, or brown in color and all married woman were entitled to wear it. When they went out, they covered themselves around the shoulders and arm with a shawl called pallium and also covered their head with its edge. Covering their head was customary for every Roman woman when they go in public. Initially, togas were considered as official wears of both men and women. During the time of republic, togas were worn only by men. However, a certain category of women, Roman prostitutes ironically wore togas to indicate their lower status in the society.

1. Their is estimated to be 300 million americans, their for their should be 300 million jobs.
2.Make sure every one gets a free college education if they want one
3.The minimum wage should be atleast 10 dollars an hour
4.Ever American is entitled to free healthcare
5.Make military service a must for all males at 18
6.Create a national interest rate cap of 4%

All of your suggestions miss one or two small points.

1. They are not Constitutional. The Constitution limits government powers. And what isn't in the Constitution is not a power of the federal government. So first, we'd need Amendments to make all this happen. And will employment become mandatory? How... totalitarian!

2. There is the wee fact that there is no proof that doing these things will create the Utopia you describe. I very much doubt that you plan will achieve anything but more government power over, and intrusion into, my life.

Why does my scorpion huddle in its water dish?

I just bought 2 red clawed emperor scorpions, one hides under a rock which i think is normal but the other one huddles in it water dish. well its not really a dish but a small bottle cap about 1cm deep and a diameter of about 4.5cm, just big enough for my small scorpion. is it normal behavior for them to just sit in it or is it a sign that something is wrong?

If that's what he's doing, then it's normal.

what did the roman leader augustus do to expand the roman empire in his reign?

im trying to find more on the roman emperor augustus and how he expanded the roman empire, and if or where he did expand it. please help!

He restored peace after 100 years of civil war; maintained an honest government and a sound currency system; extended the highway system connecting Rome with its far-flung empire; developed an efficient postal service; fostered free trade among the provinces; and built many bridges, aqueducts and buildings adorned with beautiful works of art created in the classical style. Literature flourished with writers including Virgil, Horace, Ovid, and Livy all living under the emperor’s patronage.

The empire expanded under Augustus with his generals subduing Spain, Gaul (now France), Panonia and Dalmatia (now parts of Hungary and Croatia). He annexed Egypt and most of southwestern Europe up to the Danube River.

Medieval Total War II - Chronicles of the Holy Roman Empire - Part I

Diamonds, Holy Roman Antiques - Charlemagne, Good King Wenceslas, Modern Europe

Good King Wenceslas was a diamond of a human being indeed, in the short time he enjoyed the throne of Bohemia. He shared his new Christian joy with his people, and his desire to have Bohemia join with the new Holy Roman Empire of Charlemagne and become a part of a renewed, larger border free Europe. This in 912.

However, his mother who was still a pagan was not amused. She saw the pagan ways special to Bohemia for many centuries as having to give in to a larger central government far away near Brussels today- do you hear that irony in the historic wind?- led by the great new convert to Christian beliefs and education, Charlemagne.

Gone would be the local ways and customs and giving in to a central authority was not for our ways. So Wenceslas banished his mother from the kingdom, her allies brought forward his pagan brother Boleslav, by most accounts a violent fool, who began to make impossible demands of new King Wenceslas. He wanted a stone castle on low ground at the confluence of two rivers: even the King lived in a wooden castle in 912.

Soon, most cowardly by Boleslav and his men in front of a church door, Wenceslas was cut dead. The pagans had won, and Bohemia stayed ignorant and outside the civilization that Christian monks brought to all around.

So much so that the beloved grandmother of young Prince Wenceslas, St. Ludmila, who had been strangled by Wenceslas' own pagan mother, and Wenceslas himself were adored and enshrined in the hearts and souls of the good people of Bohemia. Within a century converts of good King Wenceslas dared to come forth.

Soon the pagans lost control of the ceremonies, and most of all the hearts of the people. Saint Ludmila and her grand son Good King Wenceslas were very good indeed, and when they looked down on the feast of Stephen, every where he looked around the frost was deep and even.

And as empires lift and fade after great men die too soon, the mists of time blended over this first greater out of the dark ages attempts to bring about a border less market free Europe. It has been a way from 912 to today, and there have been some terrible bumps and off ramp crashes, but here we are.

Well done, great visionaries. Burn in Hell, Boleslav. God and St. Peter willing, I hope to see you inside Heaven at Christmas, Wenceslas: can they arrange frost that crunches deep and crisp and even? We will see. But the question what if reamins in front of us so open to vision.

What if Wenceslav had not turned his back on the treacherous brother and his thugs, and believe his hand on the church door would stop them from killing him?

What if Charlemagne had been aware of the treachery in the court of his dear new friend Wenceslas and sent soldiers of Christ to prevent these pagans from allowing Europe to spread east as it has only managed now.

That was 912, and today in 2008 we can say it is a good thing, long overdue, could have saved hundred of millions of lives in wars, but seems to be happening now.A diamond of an idea, so long overdue.
