First of all your telling me that darth maul takes out both jedis in episode 1 knocking obi wan off the edge of that shaft. Then obi wan miraculously jumps out and gets him in 1 hit and kills him? Let me fix that: Maul shoulda sent him a force wind and Obi wan falls down the shaft only to be caught just in time by anakin in his spaceship. No need for applause I know I did a good job. Dooky shouldnt have been born and replaced by maul in episode 2 with pretty much the same setup and results except much better action obiviously with maul doing the fighting. And PLEASE im still mad at maces lack of respect in 3 with the cheap shot. May be him and dooku coulda had their own battle on the side in episode 2?

In your question/rant ... you're totally missing the point and the symbolism of the duel with Darth Maul & the importance of the Anakin/Vader character. Your "fix" is ludicrous as it does nothing but make a mockery of a great story. It gets no applause but gives a ton of evidence to support a massive need for a lobotomy.

The main story line of SW is the Skywalker family, specifically Anakin, & how a small but immensely powerful group of people can change the course of events for an entire galaxy. The fact that Anakin was shown to be a whinny little brat at times just adds to the "legend" of his life because in the end he does the right thing.

Darth Maul WAS a great character but he was NEVER intended to be a main character. Just because he seems to be your favorite doesn't change that fact because if I remember right this is George's story not yours. Maul is actually the last of the "classically trained" Sith Lords since from then on most are fallen Jedi. Maul was turned into a monster by Palpatine's brutal training methods. A monster with massive power but no brains although the few books about him do show him to have a certain amount of cunning but not enough to overcome his lack of control when it came to his anger. The duel in ep I served a "higher" purpose ... it was the "trials" of one of the greatest Jedi that ever lived. Each Jedi faces their own "trials" & while it is different for each Jedi it always surrounds the same thing. Teaching them that they can NOT fight their fear/anger/rage. All they can do is accept it & then move past it. That is what happened to Obi-Wan. After Maul took out Qui-Gon it was clear as a bell that Obi-Wan gave into his anger with the way he came after Maul & it is the main reason that he found himself hanging in that shaft about to die. I'm sorry dude but Maul died because he was a cocky moron. He just couldn't help but stand there and taunt Obi-Wan & that was his undoing. It allowed Obi-Wan to calm down, center himself, realize just what it was that he had done wrong & to correct it by accepting his fear/anger/rage & move past it. Remember that look of confusion that crossed Maul's face just before Obi-Wan launched himself out of the shaft? That look was because he "felt" the change in Obi-Wan through the Force & it was those brief moments of confusion that allowed Obi-Wan to end his life.

Dooku ... you might want to do a little bit of research on the character. If you did you would find that he was the perfect person to become Palpatine's next apprentice. Dooku had always had leanings towards the dark side but it didn't stop him from becoming a much respected & powerful Jedi Master. After Qui-Gon's death Dooku renounced his vows as a Jedi & became one of the "Lost 20". His turn to the dark side was made easy by Palpatine's claims to want to bring "peace" to the galaxy by getting rid of all the insane corruption that had handcuffed the Old Republic into a meaningless entity. Do you really think that Maul could have brought all the different factions of the Separatists together into a fighting force against the Republic ... not a chance in hell. Both served a purpose but ultimately they were nothing more than pawns because from the moment that Palpatine learned of Anakin he was the only one that Palpatine wanted as his apprentice. Everything that Palpatine did was towards that one goal ... turn the most powerful conduit of the Force that the galaxy had ever known to the dark side because he knew that together no one could stand against them. As for Mace ... give it up dude ... just another pawn in Palpatine's game, the final move for checkmate. Palpatine takes out 3 powerful Jedi Masters in the first seconds of that fight but ends up laying on the floor babbling for his life against the onslaught of Mace Windu. An all out fight between the two of them would have been epic but Palpatine never went all out against Mace. He needed Anakin to think he was helpless & in need of saving against Mace. If he was so weak & helpless where did he find the strength to blast Mace out the window after Anakin cut his arm off?

Sorry but you've been "punked" by a very narrow minded view of the SW story & by thinking the story should have went the way you wanted it to not the way it had to.

In Star Wars Episode 5, how did Darth Sidious not know that Luke was Darth Vader's son?

He knows it because he's the Lord of the Dark side of the force.

What is the next book in the Star Wars series immediately following Return of the Jedi?

I have recently received "Heir to the Empire" from a friend, and this is 5 years after Return of the Jedi happened, is there anything in between that I should read? Or is this the bonafide next chapter, like, Chapter VII if you will?

Its the Truce at Bakura, its is literally days after the Battle of Endor. Its a pretty good book.

what martial arts styles would you attribute to famous fictitional characters?

Ok, this is not a serious topic, but at least it isn't "can sponge bob beat barney in a cage match"?

It has to be a REAL existing or historical style- "gun kata" while interesting and the most effective martial art ever, is still fictitional.

not looking for any answer really, just opinions. its fictional characters there is no right or wrong. I guess just explain why.

Indiana Jones - Old school boxing mixed with street fighting mixed in. Something like what Gene Tunney and Jack Dempsey were doing.

The terminator - Not sure he really had one. Mostly just brute force.

Batman - A cross between karate and jujitsu with ninjitsu's stealth and a masked face.

BA baracus - mostly boxing, from Mr. T's days as a Chicago bouncer

Shaft - Never saw any of the old Shaft movies. My guess would boxing and some karate thrown in as it starting making it into mainstream in the 70's.

Darth Vader - Iaido/Jujitsu/karate - similar to what a samurai would study

Rambo - Whatever they teach Special Forces/Army Rangers

Conan the barbarian - Iaijitsu, Kenjitsu, (He did learn off of a samurai sword in the movie) and Medieval Sword fighting

Conan O'brien - not a clue

Spiderman - Probably cross between Wu Shu flips and movement and Ninjitsu from walking on walls and using his webbing to travel up buildings

Though not a serious topic, this question made me think quite a bit...

Shedding Light on Dark Marketing

Dark Marketing is slowly making its way into the advertising lexicon, and for good reason. Rock bands like Nine Inch Nails and burger giant McDonalds have unleashed its brand engagement and reinforcement capabilities with results marketing chiefs can cheer.

But, for many in the industry, the term is still more likely to conjure an image of Darth Vader opening a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos instead of what the concept delivers: legions of brand enthusiasts actively participating in an artfully designed and carefully executed brand marketing campaign that spans countries and continents.

It's powerful stuff.

Here's a brief primer, and, for brands that can, a "how-to-market darkly" checklist.

Let there be Light

Dark Marketing isn't sinister, but it borders on covert. At its core is the alternative reality game (ARG), a complex, creative and purposeful scenario that brings brands to life.

ARGs are interactive narratives that comprise fiction and nonfiction, mystery and detection and scripted and unscripted activities that invite participation. The games unfold on (and are made possible by) multiple forms of traditional and online media. ARGs may use telephones, e-mail, outdoor signage, t-shirts, television, social networks, music, blogs and more to introduce an engaging storyline, motivate behavior, reveal game clues and advance the narrative in ways that hold player interest.

Take, for example, Microsoft's "I Love Bees" campaign used to promote the launch of Halo 2, a hit video game. It's a great illustration of how ARGs go under the radar of traditional marketing to rally consumers to the brand.

Microsoft launched the game by FedEx-ing jars of honey to several Halo players. A few days later, the promotional trailer for Halo 2 referenced a Web site, ilovebees.com/xbox.com. The Web site provided lists of pay phone numbers, GPS coordinates for the phones and times when each listed number would be called, driving the curious to find the phones and answer the calls. The calls delivered additional clues that advanced the ARG, promoted Halo 2 and reinforced the brand.

From the start of the game until its conclusion (with players earning a preview experience of the Halo 2 game), players and observers visited the I Love Bees Web site for updates on the narrative and new clues about the game. Independent Web sites and forums sprang up, generating game theories, conspiracies, storylines and, of course, marketing buzz.

Not for Everyone

ARGs work best for brands with target markets that enjoy the aspects of interactive, social games with online components. Commenting on why "I Love Bees" was so successful for Microsoft, James Hilton, creative director for AKQA, the agency that developed the ARG, said, "It worked well for Xbox because its audience is inclined to investigate further, hack into sites and solve problems." There must be a good fit between the brand, the meaning the brand wishes to communicate, the target market and the story and plot that anchor the ARG.

After determining fit, roll up your sleeves. ARGs demand substantial work -- from initial conception through planning and execution. Further, because the storyline can change depending on response from players, ARGs require agility, quick writing and responsiveness from game architects (known as puppet masters) through the game's conclusion.

Additionally, if player response takes ARGs in unintended directions, marketers charged with tightly controlling brand meaning may find themselves taking unwanted risks.

Finally, compared to some marketing options, an ARG's reach can be small. For example, measures of Audi's success with an ARG referred to reaching 500,000 people. A display ad on the MySpace homepage, for example, could have reached millions. Of course, the attention and involvement components are entirely different for these two examples, and it is important to consider the entire range of benefits and disadvantages associated ARGs and other marketing activities.

Getting to the Dark Side

ARGs engage brand enthusiasts, drive publicity and create buzz. They allow brands to tell their stories creatively, interactively and virally. If you're ready to give one a shot, follow these guidelines:

Have a story to tell. ARGs are first and foremost an interactive story that should be captivating, dynamic and inviting.
Ensure that there is a clear match between the brand, the target audience and the notion of an interactive game.
Plan, plan, and plan more. Begin by assessing how the ARG can facilitate accomplishment of the brand’s marketing goals. Then figure out the back story (the pregame narrative), the primary narrative, and the forward story. Perplex City (http://seasonone.perplexcitystories.com/story.html) offers a detailed overview of its architects' planning process.
Reveal the story narrative over time using obscure clues and messages that will require player interaction to decipher the scenes.
Include plot lines that are nonlinear and can be revealed sporadically. The development of the narrative must not be predictable and must not rely on a linear unfolding of events to make sense.
Design a story that will enhance the sense of reality in the story. Players should not be reminded of the game but should be invited to make the game part of their reality.
Utilize a variety of media, and carefully design game elements to leverage the characteristics of the delivery medium. Past ARGs have utilized code on T-shirts and posters, Web sites identified in video trailers, posts to blogs, e-mail, text messages and mass media advertising.
Be prepared to change the direction of the narrative in response to player input and response to past clues and events.
Commit to the ARG and its management. ARGs take time and continued involvement and management as the story unfolds.
Consider an agency with ARG experience, including 42 Entertainment, Mind Candy and McKinney & Silver.
Measure the effectiveness of the ARG based on the objectives for the promotional campaign, not just according to game participation.

As TIVO, iPods and the Internet continue squeezing traditional advertising methods, dark marketing strategies will become a bigger part of the mix.

And for marketers that get it right, this dark side promises plenty of sun.

Guess who I saw waiting to sign on the dole Q the other day?

Well, you'd never believe it, but it was o'l Darth Vader. Would appear that the Galactic Empire has hit hard times due to the credit crunch. He had been made redundant from his role as the bad guy. The Empire, having already laid off thousands of ppl and Decommissioned many IMPERIAL warships due to the high running/ maintenance costs DV find himself in the dole Q . Anyway, I suggested he try looking for work as a fighter pilot for US military in Afghanistan. However, apparently there's not much call these days for " intergalactic fighter pilots and he was told he was "over qualified".I also suggested he could "train" young offenders in the art of light sabre skills. But warned that past experience has taught him ppl can LOSE AN ARM . I had to go so wished him luck. He muttered something about applying or a job at local undertakers.- which I though rather ironic.
Did anyone else see anyone at the dole Q?
PS: I don't sign on just thought this might be amusing

Yoga breathing exercises or Pranayama for freeing the mind

Yoga is not to be thought of as just a series of awkward movements useful for making your body subtle and flexible. While yoga will achieve this, its benefits are much more profound. The various elements of yoga are all fundamental and without them yoga postures become simply physical movement. These elements; asanas, breathing, gaze and meditation when performed correctly will allow to become one with yourself and providing a level of awareness never before experienced.

Today we are going to take a look into pranayama, the art of breathing and breath control. With pranayama we are conscious of our breath travelling though our lungs. While this exercise that we are going to discuss is a little difficult to master, your efforts will be well worth it. Believe me.

Ujjayi breath control

This specific exercise is performed by making a soft, yet audible, sound in the back of your throat while inhaling and exhaling through the nose. In this breathing practice, you will be breathing deeply while restricting the back of throat allowing the air to swirl in the back of the throat so as to create a low humming sound. The sound should resemble that of wind in the trees or ocean waves . Some people have also said this sound resembles the famous dark villan of Star Wars: Darth Vader, however I don’t think he was practicing pranayama. Follow the humming sound as it will help you concentrate on the synchronization of breath.

Some of you may find it difficult to produce the humming sound, but there is a simple exercise to help you. Try sitting upright and deeply inhale through the nose and then exhale through the mouth, however, while exhaling make the back of your throat vibrate and hum or purr as if you were whispering. You should be able to feel the air passing through your throat. Breath like this several times then midway through exhaling close your mouth and exhale through your nose.

The second part is also tricky to perform correctly. While inhaling through the nose you should try to replicate the same swirling sound in your throat. As with all new things, with practice you will be able to do this automatically without effort.

With this breathing exercise we must be totally relaxed, this may seem odd but you should also keep your face muscles relaxed during the exercise. Your chest shouldn’t heave and your collar bone should only slightly raise and fall.

We are trying to create a smooth rhythm in our breath throughout this pranayama. Learn to listen to the breath in order to achieve the best results.

The correct position for pranayama

What is the correct position for performing this pranayama exercise? There isn’t one. It can be performed either sitting or lying down. In this article I want to talk about the lying position as I think this enables a greater level of relaxation. We will need some props for this (yoga blocks, folded blankets, thick books,etc.) as your chest, neck and head must be raised from the floor. Your back should be gently arched with your thighs and backside on the floor while your upper back should be supported to just below the same height as the tops of your thighs(8-10 inches), your neck and head should also be comfortably supported. It is important that your head is not inclined backwards, but slightly higher than your neck. It is also a good idea to cover your eyes and ears.

Relax your throat and your entire body, try to focus on an imaginary point inside your chest. Gently close your eyes and look downwards towards the imaginary point, this will help you relax. If your eyes are looking upwards your mind will become full of invasive thoughts. The next step is to breath normally, becoming acquainted with this position and your body. Fully expand your chest but do not tense your diaphragm.

The next step is to inhale normally but exhale deeply and slowly releasing all of the air from your lungs, feel it leave your body. You should try to synchronize as much as possible the movements of your abdomen and diaphragm and keep the flow of your breathing stable at all times. Do this for about 15 cycles.

The next phase is the exact contrary of the previous one. Here we are inhaling deeply but exhaling normally without effort. You should experience your breath rising from your lower chest to your throat, be conscious of this. Once again 15 cycles.

Finally, you will be breathing in and out deeply and peacefully in a controlled manner, completely filling your lungs with air and then totally emptying your lungs. End the exercise by exhaling. One again 15 cycles is sufficient.

After you have finished, gently sit up from the supports under your back and head, remove them, then lay on the floor in a Savasana posture “the corpse” and relax for 3-5 minutes.

If it is too difficult to perform the humming sound in your throat, just practice the breathing exercise without the sound. You can always practice later.

Star wars costumes started popping up in Star Wars conventions. People found that they could live out their dreams in these costumes and live a little of the Star Wars life.

Princess Leia the slave girl was introduced in the Return of the Jedi. Princess Leia was captured as she tried to release Solo who was Cryo frozen by the Huds for not paying a debt that he owed. She was enslaved by the Huds and became entertainment for the inner circle of the Huds. She eventually was freed by luke skywalker when he comes to rescue the entire gang.

I am not a nerd and I have aspergers and OCD. I am 17 But I did a research paper on my #1 favorite Jedi from Star Wars for school. I am soo scared right now because I had a nightmare about Revenge of the Sith the other night and I was crying in my sleep for Anakin. Come On people stop making fun of me because I am a Star Wars fan who has strong feelings for Anakin and I have a huge crush on Anakin since episode II. My Mom will not listen to me and she banned me from episode Iii of Star Wars. Should I watch episode 6 instead of 3?? in my research paper I said Anakin turned into Darth Vader and that made me very upset and made me panic for hours and I am still having a meltdown and a panic attack right now. I can't get away from #3. I have nightmares about #3. Don't make fun of me.

You could have figured it out by seeing Revenge of the Jedi, but take comfort in knowing that Anakin redeems himself in the end (Return of the Jedi) by saving Luke (Anakin's son).

Star Wars follows the typical story line for all epics - where someone rises, then has a fall from grace, but redeems himself in the end. #3 is just part of the story line where he falls from grace, but know in the end he redeems himself. Focus on the redemption and not the fall from grace and hopefully, you'll do fine.

He started training in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu. Seven years later he would also start training in wushu and gymnastics. He has since earned his second-degree black belt in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu. He has competed many times in martial arts competitions and brought home many awards for them including, at the age of 16, Great Britain's Martial Arts National Championship for his group. He competed as part of the British wushu team at the 1993 World Wushu Games in Malaysia

What's New at Disney's Hollywood Studios for 2008

Since it opened on May 1, 1989 as the third major theme park at Walt Disney World(r) Resort, Disney-MGM Studios has celebrated the golden age of Hollywood with such classic attractions as The Great Movie Ride, Magic of Disney Animation and the fascinating Backlot Tour. However, starting in January 2008, Disney plans to change the theme park's name to "Disney's Hollywood Studios," which reflects "how the park has grown . . . to a celebration of the new entertainment that today's Hollywood has to offer - in music, television, movies and theater," according to Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton (August 9, 2007, press release).

Along with the name change to "Disney's Hollywood Studios," the 135-acre theme park will launch a slew of new attractions, live shows and special events in 2008 to complement such classics as Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show; Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular and Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Major attractions and live entertainment venues to be added for 2008 at Disney's Hollywood Studios include the following:

Block Party Bash

An all-new Disney-Pixar inspired parade, Block Party Bash, will enable guests to sing and dance along with their favorite characters from such hit Disney animated films as A Bug's Life, Cars, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Monsters, Inc., Ratatouille and Toy Story. The Block Party Bash also features high-flying acrobatics and is a must-see for guests visiting Disney's Hollywood Studios starting in the spring of 2008 (replacing the Disney Stars and Motor Cars Parade). .

High School Musical 2: School's Out!

The interactive High School Musical 2: School's Out show makes it debut at Disney's Hollywood Studios with a lively cast that dances and sings to hit songs from the wildly successful Disney Channel original film, "High School Musical 2: School's Out!" Catch "Wildcat fever" at the High School Musical 2: School's Out show, which will be presented multiple times daily at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Jedi Training Academy

Based on the incredibly popular Star Wars films, the Jedi Training Academy at Star Tours features an intergalactic entertainment experience that gives young Jedi students the opportunity to learn the "ways of the force" in order to battle and defeat the evil Darth Vader and his minions. The Jedi Training Academy will take place multiple times daily at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Play House Disney-Live on Stage!

A whole new Play House Disney show at Disney's Hollywood Studios will include a host of new Disney Channel characters from such programs as "Handy Manny," "Little Einsteins" and "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse." Designed for preschoolers, the live Play House Disney show will last approximately 20 minutes and take place multiple times daily at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Playhouse Disney is located on Soundstage 5 in the Animation Courtyard, directly across from The Magic of Disney Animation.

Toy Story Mania!

Toy Story Mania! takes the interactive ride-game experience to infinity . . . and beyond! Inspired by the classic Disney-Pixar animated movie, Toy Story, Toy Story Mania! will make its debut in the summer of 2008 as the newest attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios. With state-of-the-art, 3-D technology, this thrilling interactive ride will take guests on a wild adventure through a video game where they use spring-action shooters to toss rings at aliens, throw eggs at barnyard targets and launch darts at balloons (scoring points in the process just like at Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin). Toy Story Mania! will feature all your favorite Toy Story characters such as Woody, Hamm, Rex and much more.

In addition, Disney's Hollywood Studios will be an integral part of Disney's Year of a Million Dreams celebration, which has been extended throughout 2008. Disney's Year of a Million Dreams celebration will feature the Disney Dreams Giveaway, which boasts "more dreams that only Disney can make true" such as a night's stay inside Cinderella Castle Suite at Disney's Magic Kingdom, a star-studded trip to the "High School Musical 3" film premiere, a flight in a hot air balloon high above a Disney World theme park or a private day at Disney's tropical island paradise, Castaway Cay.

Special events such as ABC Super Soap Weekend (November), the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights (November-January), ESPN the Weekend (late February) and Star Wars Weekends (June) will continue to take place at Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2008. In addition, Night of Joy at Walt Disney World will be hosted for the first time by Disney's Hollywood Studios. Held in early September (September 5 and 6 for 2008), Night of Joy features some of the most talented singers in contemporary Christian music for a magical celebration full of joy and inspiration. Four popular acts have already confirmed for the 2008 Night of Joy: MercyMe, tobyMac, Chris Tomlin and Rush of Fools.

Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2008 will also continue to feature opportunities for kids of all ages to meet and greet their favorite characters such as the Power Rangers, JoJo and Goliath and Little Einsteins as well as Lightning McQueen and Mater from Disney-Pixar's animated movies, Cars.
